The forging process for Incoloy 800 is typically carried out between temperatures of 2200/1600ºF (1200/870ºC), with heavy forging occurring in the range of 2200/1850ºF (1200/1010ºC). However, special attention must be given to the temperature range of 1400/1000ºF (760/540ºC), where chromium carbide precipitation can occur. To prevent this, parts should be cooled rapidly through the temperature range.

For optimal properties, Incoloy 800 should be annealed at temperatures between 1800/1900ºF (980/1040ºC), ideally with water quenching after annealing to avoid carbide precipitation. The alloy is readily machinable by standard methods. It may be welded using any welding process, with the alloy supplier consulted for a guide to electrodes and filler metals to be used. Incoloy 800H Forging is an incredibly useful material for a variety of industrial purposes incredible strength under extreme temperatures and corrosive conditions as well as its good surface finish which allows parts machined from it to last longer with little maintenance.
